POWER OF THE JAGUAR

Power of the Jaguar is a Master of Fine arts exhibition featuring drawings and paintings by Joe Weatherly. This show is a body of work that is dedicated entirely to celebrating the power, beauty, and stealth of Central and South America’s largest predator, the jaguar. The show is also to raise awareness for jaguar conservation and 50% of all sales will go back to Jaguar North America’s “Jaguar Conservation Trust” which provides grants for projects that promote the preservation of the jaguar and it’s habitat.

While obtaining his MFA in Illustration at California State University Fullerton, Joe Weatherly, already a well- known animal artist, decided to focus on the Jaguar as his thesis project. The two and a half year process consisted of field studies in the jungles of Belize and Brazil to examine the environment and habitat of the jaguar and countless hours spent with live jaguars at zoo’s making many drawings and preliminary studies.

Joe feels the only way to truly learn your subject is to visit where they live, try to observe them in the wild, study their environment and draw them from life over and over again to learn their form, anatomy and character. These are the key ingredients to making a successful animal painting.

Feeling Jaguar Cars would be the perfect venue for this show, Joe contacted them with his proposal on celebrating the magnificence of their feline namesake and supporting arts and conservation.

“Both the cat and the car signify grace and elegance combined with docility, power and agility. The jaguar makes a powerful statement and so do these paintings. I want my art to tie into their conservation efforts to ensure the future of their namesake is protected. Jaguars need our help and may be this show can make a difference.”

Rosemary Mariniello, corporate affairs manager for Jaguar North America is responsible for making Power of the Jaguar a reality. She is in charge of the Jaguar Conservation Trust, developed by Jaguar North America in 2003. The Trust is the foundational program that protects the company’s prestigious namesake. The goal of the Trust is to preserve and protect the jaguar. Rosemary Mariniello has brought this synthesis of conservation and art to Southern California.
